Expectations and Rules - Nelson Whakatū Menzshed
Expectations of members Sept 2025
1) be familiar with and adhere to fundamental rules and culture of our local Menzshed
2) participate and contribute to delivering positive outcomes to our community by volunteering time to community projects
3) taking responsibility for personal safety, and health and safety procedures prescribed
4) contributing to the friendly and collaborative atmosphere encouraged within our SHED through sharing of skills, resources and expertise
5) understand the ‘Apprenticeship’ concept for new members as a transition phase of training in skills and familiarisation with resources.
Rules for members (key focus being safety)
a) When using powered tools and machines there must be a minimum of two people on site at any time.
b) members must sign in and then on departure sign out.
c) name tags with emergency number on reverse to be worn on site.
d) appropriate PPE warn as appropriate, and sturdy footwear always.
e) machinery or equipment to be used only after training (there will be homework, see image below) and a degree of competence demonstrated.
f) all members are expected to be safety aware and report any hazards or accidents to the shed duty person who will record the issue or event on the form located in the front of the A4 diary.
g) last member leaving is to ensure that the site is vacated (refer to the sign in/out sheet to ensure you are the last) lights out and buildings secure.
h) In the event of an emergency, we are to vacate the premises by the nearest exit and assemble on the grassed area by the plane.
i) members are not to work on projects for commercial gain.
j) keep work areas clean and tidy once work is completed.
k) return tools and equipment to their correct location.
l) Talk to a committee member if you wish to borrow equipment and record in the diary
