Book Exchange

Peter (left) and Wayne set up the mini library at the Tahunanui Community. Hopefully this will be just one of many that the versatile men at the Nelson/Whakatu Menzshed will be making as the idea catches on. There are already several around Nelson made and erected by community spirited people. Will you be the next. Visit us on either Tuesday or Thursday morning for more details.

Donated by Midas of Nelson

This heavy duty vice was sitting in a lonely corner, slightly broken, at the local Midas vehicle repair and service garage. It needed a bit of LTC. I asked if it could be donated to the local Nelson/Whakatu Menzshed. Steve, the owner, had no problem with it finding a new home. Thank you Steve for the kind gesture, we will welcome you with open arms when it comes time for your retirement.

Acknowlegement by Robert Shade

Jeff and Sandra Sewell sent in this poem, a tribute to menzsheds.

MenzShed Mantra

By Crikey

Here at the MenzShed (never let it be said)
That we come here just for the craik,
There’s so much to do (between me and you)
Once you’ve joined you’ll never look back.

There are so many tools that one’s mouth drools,
At the thought of the stuff we can do,
The sky is the limit and if you give us a minute
We‘ll work out the best option for you.

We make traps for the rats and if there’s a mouse in the house
We could make one of those just for you,
Re-upholster your chairs or effect repairs
There’s nothing that we cannot do.

But the Shedz where blokes natter about things that matter
Be it menopause, prostate or cancer,
Getting things off your chest is really the best
Sharing problems is always the answer.

Wood-chips or bull-dust, conviviality’s a must
As we share both our present and past,
So lads keep your end up or there’ll be a send up
‘Cos what we do at the Shed is a blast.

North Dunedin

I was made very welcome when I visited a Dunedin Menzshed. From small beginnings this group of dedicated men have built up a superb working space well equipped with all manner of power tools and machines. Much community work is done and Bunnings have been very supportive assisting them with materials and discounted items. See the link to their Facebook Page. Thank you for your warm hospitality. Please visit us if you find yourself in Nelson.

Prop Construction

Josie and Douglas are constructing a vast number of props for the forthcoming Beatrix Potter Ballet at the Theatre Royal. The Nelson/Whakatu Menzshed have offered them the space and shelter to complete the task. Josie has the honour of being the first woman to actively participate at the Menzshed. This is an historic moment which will be recorded in suitable fashion in due course.
